No Better feeling than giving!

As we approach our tenth year in business we are fortunate to be in a position to give back to our local community as well as support our customers philanthropic goals. Last year we participated in the BC Lions “Draft a Lion” program which sends kids and families to games who would not be able to attend through Kids Up Front Charity.

Our 1-Bridge Logistics team was also able to bring their families to a game and we had a great time. Despite the challenges of our current economy we are working hard in order to be able to give back and enjoy that feeling again. Lets go team!!!

Friday at 4:30pm and our customer checks the trailer. It has a faint smell of onions from the previous delivery at McDonald's. With no time to recover we arm ourselves with some Fabreze and race over to the customer to help the driver and get this trailer smelling fresh for the next shipment. Real time Tracking platform

The 1-Bridge platform connects to trucks and trailers tracking freight in real time through ELD’s (electronic logging devices), GPS and directly through the trucking companies TMS (Transport Management System)

A few things we have learned.

·         Improved visibility and proactive solutions when drivers are running late.

·         Reduced calls to drivers

·         Length of time drivers take to load and unload at shippers and receivers.

·         The value of geofencing as it relates to cost avoidance and dispute resolution of fines.

·         Tight transit times trucking companies face as they balance hours of service and profitability.

 The platform allows 1-Bridge to be more efficient and provides a level of detail and insights we did not previously have. We also experienced our platform is only as good as the providers we connect to and there are varying degrees of data and how often updates are obtained from the varying providers.

Sponsor, participate and have fun, families helping families

The 1-Bridge Logisics team and their families showed up on June 15th to run/walk for a great cause; the 7th annual Run for H2O event. Our contribution was to be a sponsor, donate time and raise funds for families who do not have access to drinking water in Guatemala. The events we participated in were the 50m toddler dash, 1km kids run, 5km walk/run and the 10km run. It was a double celebration after the event as our team also turned 5 years old in June. Our customers and carriers allow us to give back, help others and grow our business to bring more value to them and our community.

Canada's ELD rule announced

Announced today. Trucking companies in Canada will need to be ELD compliant by June 2021. All third party ELD's (Electronic Logging Device's) will need to be certified. This is to avoid having hours of service information that can be tampered with when using unregulated ELD providers and promote safety and compliance.

Health, wellness and the benefit for business

We take full advantage of our wellness plan at 1-Bridge and have been fortunate enough to combine it by donating time and funds to worthy causes such as the Ride to Conquer Cancer and Run for H20 Vancouver. The main point is that our strongest asset it our body and it is critical to make time to take care of it. I was really busy the other day with life in general, but I made time to at least go for a walk at lunch. My goal is to sweat for at least 30 minutes per day. Anything from crossfit, cycling to hiking with family and everything in between. Believe it or not your body is a key tool in your business. Keep it strong and energized and it will translate to a healthier team and improved bottom line.

My Why - bring your daughter to the office morning

Technology, adoption and change management

As 1-Bridge explores the myriad of offerings such as imaging using OCR (Optical Character Recognition), settlement with smart contracts and traceability (not to be confused with track and trace) using DLT (distributed ledger technology = blockchain) and many others it seems like you need an aggregator for the aggregators to understand any meaningful outcomes.

1-Bridge Logistics view of Supply chain concepts for the future

Lets first understand the size of the market with information from the DOT, FMCSA and Stats Canada.

With an extremely fragmented marketplace in North America there are over 550,000 trucking companies with 90% having 6 trucks or less. Drivers are in short supply despite 3.5 million truck drivers in the US and 250,000 + in Canada making truck drivers one of the top occupations. The driver shortage is not a new concept and unfortunately isn’t going to be solved anytime soon as there is not a large influx of graduates interested in becoming truck drivers.

While there are many applications and systems in the marketplace ranging from customizable out of box to SaaS to cloud based TMS solutions it is challenging to have one system be everything to all customers, carriers and 3PL’s. Considering the fragmentation of the market; the myriad of variables that shippers need to solve for their customers and the complexities of micro economic freight markets in North America, not to mention cross border shipments. It begs the question; “Can one system solve everything?”

This is compounded with shippers, carriers and 3PL’s trying to cope with: ELD mandate, government regulation, tariffs, politics, economic policy, weather, tracking shipments cross border, telco agreements, contractual freight in a volatile market, finding cost effective reliable capacity, balancing short term objectives with long term strategy, driver shortages and the list goes on.

Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning have their place in solving different aspects of these supply chain challenges we mentioned. Is the time to implement Blockchain now? Does it solve legacy systems, tracking and tracing, sourcing reliable capacity and controlling costs in your supply chain?

These are the questions 1-Bridge is asking their carriers and customers and while there is interest in Blockchain, A.I and ML, unless it is solving the issues of today, is cost effective, easy to implement and use with little to no disruption to current business it will simply not be adopted. Creating wonderful apps and software without adoption is like building the fastest and most streamlined car without the proper tires.

The Logistics Industry is cyclical with supply and demand impacting the shift in purchasing power from customers to carriers and back. Asset based carriers are now enjoying the upper hand and many are understanding that technology can accelerate their growth as they look at brokerage as an additional revenue stream.

1-Bridge Logistics will continue to explore the latest and greatest tech for supply chain, but will be cognizant of current issues still faced by many players in the logistics industry today.

It is a very exciting time for the Supply Chain industry as we dip our toe in the Blockchain pool and seek to discover new and innovative ways to solve existing issues. The technology keeps evolving and adoption lags far behind. With any new technology it is not the tech that needs to be addressed, but rather how it will change and impact the organizations choosing to implement it.

1-Bridge Logistics Corp sponsored the www.runforh2o.com run over the weekend at Riverfront Park in Vancouver. The entire event was able to raise over $207,000.00 to bring clean water solutions to families in Talaxcoc, Guatemala. The team participated in the 50m toddler dash, 5km walk/run and the 10km run. A great day for an excellent cause impacting a remote village with clean drinking water.
